RE: ICON AND ICON II BINNACLE MOUNT REMOTE CONTROLS – LOSS OF CONTROL HAZARD

BRP is conducting a safety recall on ICON Single and Dual Lever Binnacle Mount Remote Controls and ICON II Dual Lever Binnacle Mount Remote Controls.

Dear Evinrude E-TEC Registered Owner,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of applicable laws and regulations. BRP is conducting a safety recall on ICON Single and Dual Lever Binnacle Mount Remote Controls and ICON II Dual Lever Binnacle Mount Remote Controls.

Our records show that you are the owner of an Evinrude E-TEC outboard equipped with an ICON or ICON II Binnacle Mount Remote Control(s) affected by this recall. Your ICON or ICON II Binnacle Mount Remote Control(s) requires an important service procedure.

 

What is the potential problem?

A limited number of binnacle mount remote control levers designed and assembled by our supplier, SeaStar Solutions, may be incorrectly assembled and pull away from the remote control resulting in loss of throttle and shift control.

In some circumstances, this situation may cause serious injury or even death.

 

What should you do?

Call an authorized Evinrude/Johnson dealer and make an appointment to have your ICON or ICON II Binnacle Mount Remote Control(s) serviced. The solution is the inspection of the control and if necessary, the replacement of the control. The service will be performed at no charge to you. For your safety, please do not attempt to use the ICON or ICON II Binnacle Mount Remote Control(s) until an authorized Evinrude/Johnson dealer has completed the necessary service.

This notice was mailed to you according to the most current information we have available. Affected ICON or ICON II Binnacle Mount Remote Control(s) must be serviced. If you no longer own your outboard(s) please contact BRP at your earliest convenience.
