BRP is conducting a safety recall on specific Evinrude E-TEC outboards.

Dear Evinrude® E-TEC® Registered Owner,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of applicable laws and regulations. BRP is conducting a safety recall on specific Evinrude E-TEC outboards. Our records show that you are the owner of an Evinrude E-TEC outboard equipped with a steering system affected by this recall.

What is the potential problem?

The two T45 pipe plugs on the outboard’s stern and swivel assembly were not sufficiently tightened and can loosen, potentially creating the loss of hydraulic steering fluid.

In some circumstances, this situation may result in a loss of steering control and possibly cause serious injuries or even death.

Context

Your outboard engine has two T45 pipe plugs to allow installation of a Hydraulic Tie Bar. The T45 pipe plugs are left in place on a single engine application and are only removed on one of the engines when installing a Hydraulic Tie Bar on multi-engine applications. A change was made to reduce the difficulty in removal of those plugs when the application requires a Hydraulic Tie Bar, but unfortunately the plugs were not sufficiently tightened.

What should you do?

Call an authorized Evinrude/Johnson dealer and make an appointment to have your outboard serviced. Your dealer will tighten the two T45 pipe plugs and complete a steering system leak test. The service will be performed at no charge to you.

If you have questions, need assistance, want to report any difficulty in obtaining repairs or to find the nearest authorized Evinrude/Johnson dealer. Visit www.evinrude.com or call 1-844- 345-4277.

What to do if you feel this notice is an error.

This notice was mailed to you according to the most current information we have available. Affected outboard(s) must be serviced. If you no longer own your outboard(s) please contact BRP at your earliest convenience.

Your continued satisfaction with your engine is important to us. Please understand that we have taken this action in the interest of your safety and your engine's proper operation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.
