E-TEAM UPDATE: C.A. RICHARDSON ON FISHING FOR SHARKS
EvinrudeTeam
Sharks are a Summer Time Favorite for Florida Anglers!
Blacktips and spinner sharks are easy to find on the beaches and on the channels near the passes. Oily baits like shad, threadfins, mackerel heads, or ladyfish almost always guarantee a hook-up. Good summer fun for most anglers looking to stay busy!
Tampa Bay and area beaches hold lots of shark action for anglers looking for a big thrill. Bull and blacktip sharks are regular customers for shark anglers during tarpon season.
Pick the right hook!
When choosing a hook, I generally base my decision on the size of the bait not the size of the fish I’m hoping to catch. For example, if I’m fishing with a live shrimp, I might choose a 1/0 or 2/0 hook; whereas, if I’m tossing a large 8” threadfin or mul-let, then a 7/0 hook is more appropriate. Always match the hook to your bait even if you are targeting bigger quarry… you can always increase the wire gauge of the hook in extraneous scenarios for larger predators like tarpon.
Tip of the week from C.A. Richardson
“Are Sea-Dek mats worth the investment and do they clean-up easy?”
I won’t own another boat without installing Sea-Dek...really. Fantastic traction and anti-fatigue qualities plus they make my boat look sharp. The clean-up is very easy just mild soap and water with a dock brush and you are done. Contact Tyler Shealey at Castaway Customs if you want the ultimate custom Sea-Dek look for your boat.
