New 115-HP V4 Evinrude® E-Tec engine joins the family

BRP expands line of environmentally-friendly E-TEC engines

(Miami, Florida, February 17, 2005) - Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) is fulfilling its promise to continue to build the revolutionary Evinrude E-TEC outboard engine line with the first addition of a new V4 60 degree platform 115-hp model.

"This horsepower is the perfect fit for smaller bass boats, pontoons, aluminum fishing boats, flats boats, bay boats and rigid inflatables," said Roch Lambert, vice president, general manager, Outboard Marine Engines. "We promised a full line of E-TEC engines when we introduced them two years ago and we continue to carry out that commitment. No matter what the horsepower need, boaters can enjoy the benefits E-TEC brings them."

The new compact, lightweight engine platform delivers the advanced features of all Evinrude E-TEC engines, offering excellent fuel economy and strong performance while providing cleaner emissions, no scheduled dealer maintenance for the first three years or 300-hours of use, durable, reliable components and unique BRP styling. The 115-hp E-TEC will be available late this year.

Evinrude E-TEC has set a new standard in low emission levels for outboard engines. All models, including the new V4, feature incredible fuel efficiency and performance while producing less than half of the total reportable emissions of competitive four-stroke engines. According to the Environmental Protection Agency 2004 certification database, Evinrude E-TEC is cleaner than the cleanest four-stroke outboard engine.

This new model is a perfect complement to the practical 40 through 90-hp E-TEC outboards and the robust V6 90 degree 200, 225 and 250-hp E-TEC. "We are keeping our promise to deliver the best user experience with the cleanest products available and our international customers have supported our efforts," said Michel Hade, vice president, general manager, BRP International Sales and Marketing.

Award-winning Evinrude E-TEC has garnered the Canadian Safe Boating Award (CASBA) of Best New Marine Environmental Product for 2004 by the Canadian Safe Boating Council. The CASBA recognizes contributions to safe boating, the environment, and product innovation.

E-TEC recognition spreads internationally with acceptance of the 2004 Engine of the Year Award from Motor Boats Monthly. The London-based publication held its first annual awards ceremony at the Design Museum in London recently. Other engines nominated were the Volvo Penta D3 inboard diesel and Suzuki V6 four-stroke.

Additional distinguished awards and recognitions held by Evinrude E-TEC include:

  • 2003 Innovation Award from the National Marine Manufacturers Association
  • 2004 Editor's Choice Award from Motorboating Magazine for a low maintenance motor
  • 2004 Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) Award recognizing Design Excellence in Transportation
  • Automotive Design and Technology cover feature as a technology Detroit would do well to study
