Gallons per hour. When you're 50 miles out, every drop of fuel counts. Point of fact: the two-stroke  Evinrude E-TEC 225 H.O. isn't just the fastest  outboard in its class, it's also the most efficient. At wide open throttle, the thirsty four-stroke Mercury Verado 225 guzzles 12.5% more fuel than the E-TEC's 22.4 gallons per hour rate-and yet still can't match the E-TEC's top speed. Another benefit of being the lightest engine in its class. And another reason that, when it comes to E-TEC, two is greater than four.

Testing conducted at the Ralph Evinrude Test Center comparing Evinrude 2005 E-TEC 225 H.O. on Ranger Z-20 Comanche vs. 2005 Verado 225 on Ranger Z-20 Comanche.
