    Re: Black soot on prop nut

    Two things that can affect sooting are themostats not warming up the engine enough or rich running from excessive fuel pressure. If your outboard does not turn close to its optimum rpm range, it can be luggiing and also running richer than it should.

    Yes very much so, especially around the cylinder head and the base of the powerhead. Just be careful around starter motor-alos a good idea to spray with anti-corrosion spray every year or so. I would not be too worried about removing lower cowls each time, the water will naturally wash down there, but again every 6-12 months removing the lower cowls is a good practice if used in salt water.
